Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rostom said that supporting national companies operating in fintech and digital services and facilitating their regional expansion is a priority for the Egyptian government, in line with the political leadership’s directives to provide smart, inclusive digital services to citizens inside and outside Egypt and modernize the state’s administrative apparatus.

Rostom made the remarks during a meeting with Essa Kazim, Governor of the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) and Chairman of the Board of DP World, as part of an intensive series of meetings with senior officials and representatives of regional and international institutions in Dubai, UAE, on the sidelines of his participation in the 15th edition of the AIM Congress.

The meeting discussed opportunities for joint cooperation and opening new investment horizons in the logistics and digital financial services sectors. The minister said the meeting addressed ways to boost investments in the Suez Canal Economic Zone and expand cooperation with DP World (Emirati multinational logistics company based in Dubai) in logistics and container terminal operations.

He noted Egypt’s keenness to capitalize on the strategic advantages of the economic zone and develop the infrastructure of partner ports in a way that enhances regional and international trade flows. During the meeting, Rostom reviewed the state’s efforts in digital transformation and the development of electronic financial transactions, highlighting the experience of Sahel, a company specializing in digital solutions and bill and utility payments, in which the National Investment Bank contributes as one of the state’s development arms.

He added that the meeting also discussed the procedures for registering the company with the DIFC, enabling it to expand its operations regionally and provide Egyptians residing in the UAE with easy and secure electronic bill-payment and financial obligation settlement services.

Concluding the meeting, Rostom stressed that cooperation with major financial and logistics institutions such as the DIFC and DP World opens broad avenues for economic integration and the exchange of expertise, supporting sustainable development goals and attracting more targeted investments.
