Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi said that the State has continued its efforts from July 2024 through June 2026 to secure petroleum products for all sectors and Egyptian citizens. He noted that natural gas was supplied to 804,000 housing units during the 2025/2026 fiscal year, bringing the cumulative number of connected units to around 10 million.
Speaking at a press conference Thursday, September 24, 2026, Badawi added that the average annual consumption of petroleum products during the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 fiscal years stood at around 17.77 billion liters of diesel, which recorded the highest consumption levels, 11.84 billion liters of gasoline, 287.5 million LPG cylinders and 6.94 million tons of fuel oil.
The Minister stated that the number of fuel stations serving vehicles reached 4,109 during the 2025/2026 fiscal year to meet market needs. Badawi indicated that the expansion of natural gas networks resulted in the replacement of 14 million LPG cylinders, bringing the cumulative total of replaced cylinders to around 180 million.
In addition, 75,000 vehicles were converted to run on natural gas, raising the cumulative total to 679,340 vehicles. He noted that investments directed toward the main natural gas transmission networks amounted to EGP 6.1 billion, bringing total cumulative implemented investments to EGP 30.806 billion.
The Minister pointed out that the average gas consumption increased from 6,458.36 million cubic feet per day during the winter period, averaging October 2025 to March 2026, to 7,281.56 million cubic feet per day during the summer period, averaging July-August 2026, representing a 12.7% increase.
Badawi also noted a significant increase in electricity-equivalent gas consumption, which rose from an average of 109.15 million cubic meters per day in winter to 154.55 million cubic meters per day in summer, representing a 41.6% increase.
