Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk affirmed Egypt's full support for international efforts aimed at enhancing global food security, empowering farmers and expanding prospects for joint cooperation in the fields of scientific research, agricultural innovation, technology transfer and capacity building in a manner that contributes to sustainable rural development and improves people's livelihoods.
This came in a recorded address by the minister conveying Egypt’s message to the BRICS ministerial meetings, held as part of the BRICS Agriculture Working Group meetings in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India. During his speech, Farouk praised the tireless efforts of the Indian presidency to advance the agenda of agricultural cooperation among BRICS countries toward broader, more ambitious horizons.
The minister noted that this meeting is of particular importance as it is being held amid current global conditions and growing challenges, including climate change, supply chain disruptions, and economic fluctuations that directly affect farmers and food systems.
He explained that Egypt welcomes the joint declaration issued by today's ministerial meeting, stressing the importance of strengthening cooperation among BRICS countries in the fields of seed production, agricultural inputs, and the adoption of modern technologies to ensure supply chain stability and increase productivity.
He further noted that investment in scientific research and digital transformation is the key to building resilient food systems, and that South-South cooperation and the exchange of expertise among BRICS member states are the most effective means of achieving sustainable development at both the regional and global levels.
