“Egypt has allocated EGP 742.6 billion for subsidies, grants and social benefits in its 2025/2026 budget, up 16.8%,” according to the Cabinet's Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC). In a report marking the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty on Saturday, the center outlined Egypt's efforts to reduce poverty and support low-income families.
It said that around 18 million people have benefited from the presidential Decent Life initiative, which includes 23,000 projects across 20 governorates to improve public services and living conditions. Upper Egypt accounts for 68% of the initiative's first phase.
The center also cited the Takaful and Karama cash assistance program, pension support and projects to improve housing in informal settlements. Other efforts include improving healthcare, education and infrastructure to create jobs and improve living standards.
