CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) Mohamed Awad and Executive Vice President Walid Anwar held a number of meetings on the sidelines of the first edition of the "Alamein–Africa Forum" to discuss opportunities for enhancing investment and trade cooperation with Algeria, India, financing and export credit agencies, as well as supporting the expansion of Egyptian companies into African markets.
Awad met with Omar Rekkache, Director General of the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency, to discuss opportunities for enhancing investment and trade cooperation between Egypt and Algeria, establishing joint projects, and leveraging the two countries’ capabilities to expand into African markets.
He also discussed with a delegation from the Indian company Motherson, which specializes in automotive and aircraft components, investment opportunities in Egypt in the fields of automotive components manufacturing and certain aircraft components. Gautam Manga, the company’s Head of Business Development, expressed Motherson’s interest in exploring investment opportunities available in the Egyptian market.
Awad affirmed GAFI’s support for the company as it studies investment opportunities, highlighting the potential available in the engineering and automotive components sectors. Anwar reviewed the investment systems available in Egypt and the incentives associated with each system, with a focus on the free-zone system for companies targeting export markets.
Awad also participated in a meeting between Mohamed Farid Saleh, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, and Haitham el Maayergi, Vice President of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), during which they discussed areas of cooperation in supporting startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), as well as expanding the access of Egyptian companies to African markets.
Farid and Awad also met with Ciro Aquino, Head of the Middle East and Africa Region at the Italian Export Credit Agency (SACE), to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in investment, trade, infrastructure, environmental sustainability and technological innovation.
