Transport Minister Kamel El-Wazir said Damietta Port recorded its highest annual cargo handling since its inauguration in 1986, handling 46.4 million tons during the 2025/26 fiscal year, up 5% from 44.2 million tons a year earlier. In a statement on Friday 10/7/2026, the minister said the record performance reflects sustained improvements in the port's operational efficiency and the success of ongoing modernization and expansion projects.
The port received 3,261 vessels during the fiscal year, compared with 3,221 in 2024/25, while general cargo volumes rose 6% to 31.6 million tons. Containerized cargo increased 3% to 14.8 million tons, highlighting growing demand for the port's services and its capacity to accommodate expanding maritime trade.
The minister said the achievement supports Egypt's strategy to develop its ports into a regional hub for transport, logistics and transit trade, in line with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's directives to strengthen the country's maritime infrastructure and boost its competitiveness.
