The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced plans to review complaints from applicants disqualified during its recent recruitment screening, despite having been shortlisted for training. The service said its Comptroller-General, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, ordered a case-by-case review after meeting with some of the aggrieved applicants.
In a statement issued on Monday and signed by the NCS National Public Relations Officer, Deputy Comptroller Abdullahi Maiwada, the Service said the move was aimed at addressing legitimate grievances without compromising the integrity of the recruitment process.
It stressed that inclusion on the final shortlist did not guarantee enlistment, explaining that candidates were still required to pass several verification stages, including credential checks, physical fitness assessments, medical examinations, age verification and drug screening.
According to the NCS, screening irregularities were identified among 397 applicants in areas including substance use, physical fitness, medical records, age and submitted documents. Some candidates were also disqualified over irregularities in their selection process.
The service urged applicants who believe they were unfairly disqualified to submit their details and complaints for review. It added that applicants seeking reconsideration would undergo fresh screening, warning that the review did not guarantee admission into the training college.
The NCS also warned that applicants found to have engaged in criminal conduct, including certificate fraud and other offences, would be referred to the appropriate authorities for legal action and prosecution. It called on affected applicants and the general public to remain calm and channel their complaints through designated channels.
