The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted a container concealing parts of pump-action rifles and cannabis-infused products with a combined street value of ₦373.8 million at the Tincan Island Port Command. Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, disclosed the seizures on Thursday, describing them as the outcome of intelligence-led operations to prevent the importation of items capable of threatening national security and public health.
He said the container, marked TEMU 184536/9, arrived aboard MV Velika on 8 July and was flagged by Customs’ risk management system for enhanced scrutiny. A physical examination uncovered concealed crates containing knocked-down components preliminarily identified as JoJeff pump-action rifles.
The components are undergoing further technical examination to determine the exact quantity recovered. Adeniyi said investigations led to the arrest of one suspect on 31 July at the Migfo Bonded Terminal while allegedly attempting to facilitate the container’s release.
He said documentary, financial and telecommunications evidence linked the suspect to the named consignee, while two suspects remain in Customs custody and another is being sought. In a separate operation, Customs intercepted two 40-foot containers carrying cannabis-infused products hidden among legitimate imports, including used vehicles, generators, batteries and other goods.
The seizure included 109 cartons of Delta-8 cannabis-infused pre-roll cookies, 125 cartons of Delta-8 cannabis-infused gummies and 73 cartons of cannabis-infused cookies.
