The Nigeria Customs Service Board has confirmed Constantine Dim as Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs and five other senior officers as Assistant Comptrollers-General, as the Service reported ₦4.3 trillion in revenue collection in the first half of 2026. The appointments and revenue performance were among the major issues considered at the Board’s 65th Regular Meeting held last Wednesday, and chaired by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele.
Dim, who represents the South-East, was confirmed as Deputy Comptroller-General, while Pascal Chibuoke, Sani Yahaya, Franklin Onyeka, Chibuzor Eyakwaire and Ethelbert Nnaji were confirmed as Assistant Comptrollers-General. According to a statement by the Customs Service spokesman, Abdullahi Maiwada, the appointments followed the statutory retirement of some senior officers and were made in accordance with the Federal Government’s Federal Character Policy, as provided under Section 14(4) of the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023.
The Board also approved the elevation of the Nigeria Customs Service Medical Corps to a Sub-department, to be headed by an Assistant Comptroller-General and supported by nine Comptrollers. The leadership changes came as the Board reviewed the revenue performance of the Service, which collected ₦4.3 trillion as of June 30, 2026, representing 36.4 per cent of its ₦11.074 trillion annual revenue target.
With six months remaining in the year, the Service now has approximately ₦6.77 trillion left to generate to meet its 2026 target. The Board noted that Customs had intensified revenue mobilisation through the full deployment of the Unified Customs Management System, B’Odogwu, alongside expanded post-clearance and real-time audits.
The NCS Board was also briefed on the ongoing recruitment exercise, with successful candidates invited for documentation, physical and medical screening scheduled to begin on September 7, 2026. It further considered several disciplinary appeals involving Customs officers, with outcomes including dismissal, exoneration, warning, compulsory retirement and reinstatement.
