Customers connected to electricity in the country increase April 30th 2026 The number of customers connected to electricity in the country grew from 10,242,824 in January to 10, 273,131 in February this year, monthly statically report by the state Department for Energy indicate.
The report shows that; peak demand stood at 2443 megawatts in February while the installed capacity reached 3272 during the same month. The statistical report indicates that the country’s energy mix comprising hydro-electric, geothermal, wind, solar and thermal generated 1085.5 megawatts of electricity in February this year and imported nearly 160.90 Megawatts of power from the neighboring countries to supplement domestic energy production.
The geothermal generation was the leading energy producer having generated 543.64 megawatts followed by hydroelectric power at 247.53 Mw during the same period. Wind energy generated 133.28 mw, thermal generated 124.32 megawatts while solar energy produced 36.7 mw.
As Kenya positions itself a regional hub, for advance manufacturing, digital innovation, emerging technologies and electric mobility, the demand for reliable, affordable and scalable electricity is increasing enormously. To sustain the demand, the government has put in place deliberate planning to ensure availability of reliable energy.
