A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the remand of two men, Ejiogu Godson and Robert Eze, for 15 days over alleged smuggling of high-calibre firearms and ammunition into Nigeria. Justice Friday Ogazi issued the order on Friday to allow the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to complete its investigation and determine whether the suspects should be prosecuted.

The court heard that Customs officers began monitoring a container, TEMU 1845369, on 8 July following intelligence. When it was examined five days later, officers allegedly discovered firearms and ammunition concealed inside. The investigation led to the arrest of Godson and Eze, who allegedly provided information about other suspects linked to the alleged manipulation and forgery of Customs records.

Customs told the court that releasing the suspects could compromise the investigation, as efforts were ongoing to arrest other individuals and recover exhibits in other jurisdictions. Justice Ogazi ordered that the suspects be held at a Nigerian Correctional Service facility and adjourned the case until 25 August for possible arraignment.
