Minister of Communications and Information Technology Raafat Hendy said on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, a strategic partnership between Vodafone Business, Elsewedy Electric and Cassava Technologies will establish Africa Data Centers Egypt, including one of Egypt’s largest data centers and the country’s first sovereign AI data center.
The project will initially provide 20 megawatts of capacity over three years, with plans to expand to 200 MW. It is expected to attract $200 million in foreign direct investment initially, rising to $1 billion upon completion, and create up to 200 direct and 2,000 indirect jobs.
The ministry said the project will strengthen Egypt’s digital infrastructure, support cloud and AI services, and enhance data sovereignty by enabling secure local data hosting and processing. Vodafone Business and Cassava will also provide advanced computing and Nvidia technologies, including GPU-as-a-Service, to support large-scale AI applications in Egypt.
