Civil Aviation Minister Sameh El Hefny held tete-a-tete meetings with transport and aviation ministers and civil aviation authority heads from several Arab and African countries to discuss boosting cooperation, air operations and the exchange of expertise in various civil aviation fields.
The meetings were held on the sidelines of the second edition of the El Alamein International Airshow (EIAS 2026), in the presence of Amr Nagaty, Permanent Undersecretary at the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Mohamed Rahma, Regional Director of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Middle East Office, Reem Orabi, Egypt’s Alternate Representative on the ICAO Council, Mohamed Salah, Vice President of the Civil Aviation Authority for Aviation Safety, Salma El Tahan, Head of the Air Transport Sector at the Civil Aviation Authority, and Lamia Samy, Director General of International Relations at the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
El Hefny began his meetings with Hamoud Mubarak, President of Kuwait’s General Directorate of Civil Aviation, with the two sides discussing cooperation and the exchange of views and expertise on a number of issues of common interest. El Hefny stressed the importance of continued coordination between the relevant authorities in the two countries, highlighting the deep Egyptian-Kuwaiti ties and ongoing cooperation.
Mubarak affirmed Kuwait’s keenness to continue cooperation and expertise exchange with Egypt in various civil aviation fields. El Hefny also met Yemen’s Minister of Transport and Aviation Mohsen Haidara Al Omari to discuss aviation safety, air navigation and training, as well as efforts to develop Yemen’s civil aviation sector.
El Hefny affirmed Egypt’s readiness to provide the technical and training expertise needed to support the development of Yemen’s civil aviation system in line with international standards. Al Omari expressed Yemen’s interest in expanding cooperation and benefiting from Egypt’s extensive aviation expertise.
El Hefny also met Somali State Minister for Civil Aviation at the Ministry of Transport Abdul Karim Abdu Haider to discuss expanding air traffic between Egypt and Somalia and supporting the development of Somalia’s civil aviation sector, including through Egyptian expertise in infrastructure, operations and training.
El Hefny highlighted the steady development of Egyptian-Somali relations and the importance of expanding air transport as a key means of strengthening connectivity and exchange between the two countries. The Somali minister praised Egypt’s invitation to participate in EIAS 2026 and the organization of the event, expressing his country’s interest in benefiting from Egyptian expertise in developing a new airport and increasing air operations between the two countries.
