Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk witnessed on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, the signing of a cooperation protocol between the Agricultural Research Center (ARC) and China Agricultural University (CAU), as part of the strong relations between Egypt and China and the two countries’ efforts to expand scientific and technological cooperation in the agricultural sector.
The protocol aims to strengthen scientific, technical, and institutional cooperation between the two sides, develop joint research, exchange expertise and implement capacity-building and academic exchange programs. These efforts are intended to help address challenges related to agriculture, food security, climate change and sustainable development.
Farouk affirmed that scientific research, innovation and technology transfer are key pillars for developing the agricultural sector and achieving food security. He highlighted the importance of expanding cooperation with leading international universities and research institutions and benefiting from modern expertise and technologies while adapting them to meet the needs of Egyptian agriculture.
Farouk stressed the importance of having the cooperation cover the localization of pesticide manufacturing, technology transfer in aquaculture and vegetable seed production, in addition to cooperation in research related to the social economy, food security and nutrition, as well as the production of improved crops with higher yields and greater resistance to drought and salinity.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the scientific and research capabilities of their respective institutions. The ARC highlighted its specialized institutes, laboratories, experimental stations and scientific personnel, while the Chinese side presented its advanced expertise in agricultural education, technological innovation and agricultural modernization.
For his part, ARC chairman affirmed that the signing of the protocol represents an important step in the center’s international research cooperation efforts and enhances opportunities for knowledge and technology exchange. He noted the center’s keenness to translate areas of cooperation into research and applied programs and projects that generate tangible benefits for the agricultural sector.
