Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk met with Chairman of the General Union of Poultry Producers (GUPP) Mahmoud el Anany along with representatives of poultry companies and sectors to discuss mechanisms for developing the poultry industry, supporting breeders, reviewing the latest developments in the sector and providing the necessary support and logistical solutions to advance Egypt's poultry industry.
During the meeting, which was attended by Deputy Agriculture Minister Moustafa el Sayad, the minister stressed that the poultry industry is a cornerstone of Egyptian national food security and a key pillar of the country's economy. He affirmed the state's commitment to providing all necessary logistical and financial support to poultry producers, while working to open new export markets for poultry products to ensure the sustainability and continued development of this promising sector.
Farouk also highlighted the importance of regularly updating the digital and electronic databases of the poultry industry to ensure the accuracy of data needed for timely strategic decision-making, while maximizing the use of advanced technological expertise. During the meeting, the minister instructed the ministry's foreign agricultural relations sector to expedite export-related procedures with the aim of opening new overseas markets to absorb surplus production beyond domestic consumption.
He noted that Egypt has achieved a significant increase in poultry production, with domestic output reaching 1.6 billion birds, representing a 14 percent increase over last year's production of 1.4 billion birds. Table egg production also rose to around 16.5 billion eggs, an increase of more than 14 percent compared with 14 billion eggs produced the previous year.
The meeting also reviewed ways to provide financial, logistical and technical support to poultry breeders through comprehensive coordination with the National Bank of Egypt and the Agricultural Bank of Egypt. The support would finance the modernization and upgrading of poultry houses by converting them from open to closed production systems, reducing losses, improving production efficiency and performance, increasing economic returns and breeders' incomes and offering concessional financing to help producers expand their operations and purchase key production inputs, including chicks, feed, veterinary medicines and vaccines.
