Kenya Re says health and motor insurance remain among the critical segments requiring stronger underwriting, pricing and claims management strategies Kenya Re Group Managing Director Hillary Wachinga, CEO CIC INSURANCE MW LIFE/GENERAL Fredrick Ruoro, CEO AMACO Insurance Esther Mugure Karanja and Group CEO, Jubilee Holdings, Julius Kipngetich, during the CEOs breakfast meeting in March 2026.
Insurers and reinsurers across the continent are now being challenged to strengthen risk assessment, improve claims management and adopt more efficient operating models to remain commercially viable while expanding access to insurance. These concerns will take centre stage at the third annual Kenya Reinsurance Corporation (Kenya Re) CEOs Summit scheduled for November 9–12, 2026, in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire.
“Insurers are face growing pressure to balance commercial performance with expanding insurance access, effective risk management and long-term resilience,” Kenya Re said in a pre-conference update. “Agriculture, health and motor insurance remain particularly important to businesses, households and national economies, yet each presents distinct underwriting, pricing, claims management and market penetration challenges.” The summit, to be held under the theme Driving Sustainable Profitability in Agriculture, Health and Motor Insurance Across Africa, will bring together insurance and reinsurance executives, international thought leaders and industry experts to explore ways of improving financial performance in the sector.
According to Kenya Re, health and motor insurance remain among the critical segments requiring stronger underwriting, pricing and claims management strategies to support long-term profitability. In health insurance, discussions will focus on sustaining business models amid a changing healthcare environment, while motor insurance leaders will examine risk selection, claims management and operational efficiency.
The discussions come as insurers face the challenge of balancing commercial performance with the need to expand insurance access, improve risk management and strengthen the resilience of their businesses.
