Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel Al-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, and Mr. Waleid Gamal El-Dien, Chairman of the general Authority of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), witnessed the ground-breaking ceremony for the ATUM Solar integrated industrial complex in Sokhna.
This $210 million (10.5 billion EGP) venture, spanning 200,000 sqm within TEDA Egypt, is a collaboration between JA Solar (China), AH (Egypt), Global South Utilities (UAE), and Infinity Capital (Bahrain). The complex features three facilities with annual capacities of 2 GW for solar cells (100% for export), 2 GW for solar panels, and 1 GWh for energy storage systems targeting local and regional markets.
The project will create 850 direct jobs and increase local content by sourcing Egyptian aluminum and glass. The ceremony was attended by Suez Governor Major General Tariq El-Shazly, UAE Ambassador Hamad Al-Zaabi, TEDA Egypt MD Cao Hui, AH Industrial Management Chairman Ahmed Abu Hashima, GSU CEO Eng.
Ali Al-Shimmari, and JA Solar representative Mr. Li. The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized Egypt’s commitment to localizing green energy industries under Egypt’s vision to replace imports with high-quality local products and open new export markets. SCZONE Chairman highlighted the project’s role in integrating green value chains and leveraging Egypt’s strategic location and free trade agreements to access global markets.
