Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan held working-level talks focused on nuclear, radiation, and environmental safety, Qazinform News Agency cites Trend. According to Uzatom, representatives of Uzbek ministries and agencies met a Kazakh delegation led by Ecology and Natural Resources Vice Minister Mansur Oshurbayev.
Uzbekistan presented progress on design, surveying, and preparatory work for the nuclear power plant. Uzatom director Azim Akhmedkhadjayev emphasized that safety is the cornerstone of Uzbekistan’s nuclear program, aligned with national law and international standards.
In his turn, Vice Minister Oshurbayev highlighted the importance of safe and sustainable nuclear energy development in Central Asia, stressing transparency and environmental protection. The parties agreed on a roadmap and follow-up measures for joint work. Uzbekistan suggested developing a specialized training center combining practical labs, expert support and academic mobility for Central Asian specialists.
The center would align with IAEA recommendations and build a regional knowledge base. Following the talks, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to regular expert exchanges and responsible use of peaceful nuclear technologies. As earlier reported, Kazakhstan and China discussed cooperation and nuclear non-proliferation.
