US and Egyptian officials opened the US-Egypt Ports Infrastructure and Maritime Innovation Forum in New Cairo on Sunday, August 23, 2026, to discuss port development, maritime technology, artificial intelligence and investment opportunities. US Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Robert Silverman and US Deputy Secretary of Commerce Mark Mitchell opened the forum, while Egypt’s Transport Minister Kamel el Wazir addressed the event.

The US Embassy said that American companies presented advanced technologies that could support Egypt’s port infrastructure and artificial intelligence sectors while creating new opportunities for trade and investment between the two countries. Silverman said the United States supports Egypt’s efforts to build world-class maritime infrastructure and that American companies are well positioned to compete for new projects and expand bilateral commercial ties.

Mitchell said Egypt occupies an important position in global trade and technology. He said US-Egypt cooperation could support the modernization of maritime transport, the development of the Suez Canal corridor, and the deployment of advanced US artificial intelligence and data infrastructure technologies.

The forum also connected American companies with opportunities in Egypt’s maritime, logistics, data and cloud computing sectors. Egyptian participants included Suez Canal Economic Zone Chairman Mostafa Sheikhon, North Sinai Governor Khaled Megawer and Deputy Transport Minister for Maritime Transport Nihad Shahin.

The US is seeking to expand bilateral trade and private-sector investment through cooperation with Egypt on maritime infrastructure and technology.
