Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir on Friday, July 24, 2026, inspected work sites along the section from Marsa Matrouh to Nubariya of the first line of the High-Speed Electric Train Network (Ain Sokhna–Alamein–Marsa Matrouh), which extends 660 km and is part of the Sokhna–Dekheila logistics corridor.
The visit was part of the minister’s continued follow-up on the progress of the national high-speed rail project. During the tour, the minister inspected construction and finishing works at the Ras El-Hekma, Dabaa, Sidi Abdel Rahman, Alamein, El-Hamam, Borg El Arab, Army Stadium, King Mariout, and Nubariya stations, reviewing progress rates at the stations that are expected to support tourism and economic activity along the international coastal road.
He noted that the stations will serve residents, workers, and visitors in surrounding cities, providing a modern and safe transportation link that could encourage tourism, investment, and urban development in the areas along the railway route. The minister reviewed the finishing works at the stations, passenger flow plans from station entrances to ticket halls and platforms, the availability of elevators and facilities to facilitate passenger movement, as well as plans for the optimal administrative and investment use of station spaces.
Wazir also followed up the progress of infrastructure works along the route, including bridges, tunnels, culverts, and waterways, reviewing completed projects and implementation timelines. He directed that work continue around the clock while maintaining the highest quality standards to ensure completion according to the scheduled timetable.
He also ordered the construction of pedestrian bridges alongside vehicle bridges crossing the train route to facilitate citizens’ movement, preserve the railway corridor, and accelerate the completion of access roads linking stations with main highways. The minister reviewed the completion of railway embankments along the entire route, as well as ballast laying, sleeper installation, and track works.
He instructed teams to continue preparing service roads parallel to the route to support track installation and serve nearby residential communities and agricultural areas. Wazir said the high-speed electric train network represents a major national project that will connect different parts of Egypt, adding that the first line will establish a land link between the Red Sea and the Mediterranean, describing it as a "new Suez Canal on rails." He praised the efforts of all workers involved in the project, stressing that the high-speed train represents a major shift toward sustainable, environmentally friendly mass transportation by providing a fast, safe, and efficient alternative that reduces fuel consumption and carbon emissions in line with Egypt’s green transition goals and Vision 2030.
