Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir stressed on Monday, September 14, 2026, the importance of expanding the implementation of new projects by the Suez Canal Ports Development Company and adopting all mechanisms and measures that would strengthen its expansion into the development and upgrading of seaports.
This includes the management, operation, and maintenance of cargo-handling and container terminals, multipurpose terminals, and marine berths both inside and outside Egypt. The minister made the remarks while chairing the ordinary and extraordinary general assemblies of the Suez Canal Ports Development Company, in the presence of Suez Canal Authority Chairman Lt.
Gen. Osama Rabie. During the meeting, El-Wazir emphasized the need for the company to fully adhere to the specified timelines for implementing all projects, given their vital strategic importance in supporting and developing Egypt’s transportation system and its various types of ports.
The minister said that the company is required, during the next phase, to play a larger and more effective role in activities related to maritime, road, and rail transport. This would directly contribute to strengthening Egypt’s competitiveness and consolidating its position regionally and internationally in this vital sector.
He noted that the company serves as a key arm for port development and for maximizing Egypt’s role in global trade. During the meeting, the company’s Board of Directors’ report was approved, along with the statement of financial position and final accounts. Reports by the Central Auditing Organization’s auditors for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2025, were also approved, as were the company’s budget and financial statements.
In this context, the company’s Chairman and Managing Director, Mohamed Farag, presented the comprehensive annual performance report. It covered the company’s key activities during the fiscal year, decisions adopted by the Board of Directors, organizational and administrative measures taken, as well as major contracts and agreements concluded by the company.
He also reviewed the implementation status of national projects currently under execution, including dredging, land reclamation, and the construction of berths for the dirty bulk terminal at El-Mex Port; reclamation works behind the eastern breakwater at Damietta Port; the project to establish a cement plant at Arish Seaport; and the railway line connecting Ferdan and Taba.
The projects also include the construction of a logistics terminal for receiving and handling raw materials and pellets in the Adabiya area; the construction of an 850-meter-long marine berth with a total area of 270,000 square meters; reclamation works for the berths and yards of the Tahya Misr 2 Terminal; and Taba Seaport, which forms part of the vital Arish–Taba logistics corridor and is of major importance to global trade.
The projects further include dredging and reclamation works for a ship repair and recycling area, as well as construction works on the 6,920-meter-long western breakwater at Damietta Port.
