Minister of Transport Kamel el-Wazir chaired the constituent assembly meeting of the Canal Trust Ship Services Company established to manage and operate specialized commercial vessels on a maritime route linking Egyptian ports with ports in East African countries for the transport of livestock and Egyptian goods.
In a statement Thursday, June 4, 2026, the Ministry of Transport said the meeting approved the company's articles of incorporation, bylaws and shareholders and formed the board of directors, while also appointing the company's auditor and legal advisor. Speaking on the occasion, Wazir said the establishment of the company falls within the framework of efforts to strengthen cooperation and boost intra-African trade in the implementation of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
He said the move also reflects the Egyptian government's strong commitment to increasing exports, opening new markets and expanding trade exchange with African countries, particularly those in East Africa. The minister stressed that enhancing connectivity with African countries across sectors, including transport, is a key pillar for achieving continental integration and promoting sustainable economic growth.
He noted that the company will undertake the management of and provision of logistics services for specialized commercial vessels, along with related activities such as shipping agency services, customs clearance for export and import cargoes, and inland logistics services, including transportation and storage.
The company will also coordinate with ports and customs, veterinary and regulatory authorities, and receive the vessels at Safaga Port in the first phase, with plans to allow their reception at all Red Sea ports in the near future.
