Minister of Transport Kamel el Wazir held separate meetings on Friday, August 7, 2026, with Chad's Minister of Infrastructure, Territorial Connectivity and Road Maintenance Amir Idriss, and Minister of Transport, Civil Aviation and Meteorology, Fatima Goukouni, to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in transport, infrastructure, logistics, roads, railways, urban transport, and river transport.
The meetings took place on the sidelines of the fourth session of the Egyptian-Chadian Joint Committee, held in the Chadian capital of N'Djamena, as part of the implementation of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's directives to strengthen cooperation with fellow African countries and advance economic and development integration between Egypt and the continent.
Wazir met with Goukouni, where the two sides reviewed a number of areas of cooperation in transport, logistics, railways, urban transport, and river transport, with the aim of developing Chad's transport system, supporting trade flows, and strengthening integration between the two countries.
In a statement the Ministry of Transport said the discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in logistics zones, including the allocation and utilization of suitable sites for establishing logistics hubs along the logistics corridor, particularly in N'Djamena and Oum Hadjer.
These projects are intended to facilitate trade, improve cargo handling and transport, connect production and consumption centers with trade gateways, and maximize the benefits of logistics corridors linking Chad with neighboring countries and seaports. The two sides also discussed strengthening technical cooperation in the railway sector, particularly with regard to developing rail links to seaports through Cameroon.
Such links are expected to facilitate Chad's exports and imports, create new opportunities for trade, and enhance Chad's integration into regional transport and trade networks. Wazir stressed the importance of preparing comprehensive economic feasibility studies for the proposed railway projects to assess expected demand for transport services and ensure that investment costs are economically justified, thereby guaranteeing the projects' sustainability and developmental value.
The talks also tackled cooperation in urban transport. The Chadian side called for encouraging Egyptian private-sector investment in developing N'Djamena's urban transport system and examined the possibility of linking the capital with neighboring cities and densely populated areas.
Within the framework of technical cooperation, Wazir expressed appreciation to Chad's Ministry of Transport for its fruitful cooperation with the Egyptian side in the field of road safety, emphasizing the importance of expanding collaboration and exchanging expertise across various transport sectors.
Wazir reaffirmed Egypt's readiness to continue technical cooperation in all transport fields and to provide Egyptian expertise and capabilities to Chad in line with President Sisi's directives to deepen cooperation with African partners and support development and integration across the continent.
Wazir invited Chad's transport minister to visit Egypt to review the country's experience in implementing and developing transport and logistics projects and discuss mechanisms for expanding bilateral cooperation and translating it into practical projects and programs.
