Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ), the national railway carrier, has mobilized emergency passenger rail services to absorb demand displaced by severe weather conditions that have forced temporary closures on major highway sections connecting Astana with Karaganda and Shchuchinsk.
Starting January 21, 2025, the carrier will transport more than 500 passengers via three supplementary train rotations operating in both directions along affected corridors. The additional services are designed to maintain transport connectivity for citizens stranded by impassable roadways during the adverse weather event.
Boarding facilities have been established at two regional stations to facilitate passenger access. From Kurort Burabay station, passengers may board Train No. 6830 operating the Kokshetau–Astana route and Train No. 7508 on the Kokshetau–Nurly-Zhol corridor. The Sarybel station will serve travelers destined for Karaganda and Astana via Train No. 6857.
KTZ has indicated that special operational protocols remain in effect for the duration of the weather emergency, with heightened monitoring of passenger movement and service reliability across the affected network segments.
The carrier has issued a public advisory urging citizens to minimize non-essential long-distance travel while weather conditions persist, emphasizing personal safety considerations amid the challenging conditions.
