Suez Canal Authority Chairman Osama Rabie met on Wednesday September 2, 2026, with US Chargé d’Affaires in Cairo Robert Silverman, accompanied by a diplomatic delegation, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the two sides. Rabie emphasized the strategic importance of the Suez Canal as a key link supporting the stability of global supply chains and facilitating trade between East and West.He said the canal has successfully addressed the impact of geopolitical challenges in the region, continuing to provide navigation services around the clock while introducing new maritime services to meet customers’ needs in both normal and emergency conditions.
Rabie also highlighted the canal’s unique position in the maritime community, citing the navigational advantages it offers and the savings in operating costs, time and distance. He talked about efforts to localize the maritime industry, pointing to unprecedented growth in the construction of marine units, which is expected to further develop maritime services and open new export opportunities.
He added that Egypt continues to improve the navigational waterway through development projects, most recently the southern sector development project, which increased navigational safety in the sector by 28%. For his part, Silverman affirmed the strength of Egypt-US relations and praised cooperation with the Suez Canal Authority, highlighting its importance to US interests and global trade between Europe and Asia.
He expressed interest in expanding bilateral cooperation in new areas. The two sides also discussed cooperation in shipyard development, maritime services and digital transformation. Rabie later presented Silverman with the New Suez Canal Shield and invited him on a maritime tour of the New Suez Canal and a visit to the Suez Canal Museum.
