Austria-based RHI Magnesita is considering establishing an integrated refractory production facility to serve Egypt’s heavy industries and potentially supply other Middle Eastern markets, according to Egypt’s Ministry of Industry. The proposed investment was discussed during a meeting between Egyptian Industry Minister Khaled Hashem and RHI Magnesita’s regional management for the Middle East, Turkey and Africa.
The ministry said the company is currently studying the establishment of a manufacturing facility for refractory products used in the steel, cement, aluminium, copper and glass industries. Hashem said the potential project would support Egypt’s efforts to localize supporting industries for heavy manufacturing and could help meet domestic demand while supplying other markets in the Middle East.
The project is also aligned with Egypt’s updated Industrial Strategy 2030, which identifies refractory production as an important supporting industry for the steel, building materials and engineering sectors. RHI Magnesita said it considers Egypt one of the key markets in the Middle East, citing the availability of high-purity raw materials required for refractory production.
