Zhetysu region Governor Beibit Issabayev briefed President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the region's socio-economic performance and outlined a major agro-industrial expansion program, according to the Akorda press service. The region surpassed all primary target indicators in 2025, drawing 610 billion tenge in total investment—a 12.8% increase over the prior year.
The agricultural development roadmap centers on significantly expanding processing capacity at two key sugar plants. Work is currently underway to double the combined capacity of the Aksu and Koksu facilities to 950,000 tons, supporting a broader increase in sown areas for sugar beet and other crops.
By 2027, the regional administration plans to launch 23 agro-industrial investment projects valued at 94.4 billion tenge. The pipeline includes poultry farm construction, feed lot development, fish farming operations, greenhouse complexes, and ancillary facilities designed to deepen the region's food production chain.
Industrial growth has already produced tangible results over the past three years. Zhetysu commissioned 29 new manufacturing and processing facilities while expanding seven existing operations, generating 1,841 permanent jobs across the regional economy.
Infrastructure improvements are supporting both industry and population growth. Regional gasification has reached 67.2%, and the recently completed Taldykorgan-Usharal gas pipeline now delivers supply to 210 settlements accommodating more than 650,000 residents.
President Tokayev also directed attention to the region's tourism potential along the Alakol and Balkhash lake shorelines. Officials are addressing road access, potable water supply, electricity, and wastewater treatment in tourist zones. Shoreline reinforcement has commenced and reconstruction of 31 kilometers of road serving the Burkhan-Bulak waterfall is underway.
Under the national Taza Qazaqstan ecological initiative, three eco-parks will be established and 121,000 seedlings planted across the region. Separately, the President issued instructions to ensure efficient operations at the Dostyk border crossing and the Khorgos Special Economic Zone, while calling for accelerated development of mountain tourism and recreation infrastructure in the Alakol and Balkhash areas.
