A new wave of emergency power outages affected several parts of Almaty on August 20, with equipment damage reported as the cause, Qazinform News Agency correspondent reports. Temporary electricity outages were recorded in several districts of the city during the day.
According to the interactive outage map of Alatau Zharyk Company, a power outage occurred at 4:20 p.m. in Almaly district, affecting areas around Turkebayev, Rozybakiev and Bogenbay Batyr streets and Raiymbek Avenue. The company said the outage was caused by damage to two distribution point cubicles.
“Specialists of Alatau Zharyk Company promptly began work. The necessary technical measures are currently being carried out to fully restore power supply,” the company told Qazinform. Another emergency outage was reported at 6:10 p.m. in the area of Seifullin, Zhumabayev, Selskaya and K.
Bespakov streets. According to the company’s interactive map, power restoration was expected to take up to three hours. The latest disruptions come less than a week after a major power outage affected Almaty on August 14, prompting city services to operate in an enhanced mode.
The earlier blackout also caused disruptions to water supplies in some parts of the city. Some residential buildings experienced reduced water pressure, while upper floors in certain buildings were left without water. Kazakhstan’s national electricity grid operator KEGOC said the August 14 incident was caused by a technological failure in the country’s unified power system.
The 500-kilovolt Agadyr-Ulken transmission lines L-5300 and L-5320, as well as the Aktogay-Taldykorgan L-5400 line, were disconnected. As a result, the southern zone of Kazakhstan’s Unified Power System and the Central Asian Unified Power System were separated and began operating in an isolated mode.
