Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said Egypt is giving high priority to developing the civil aviation sector by upgrading airport infrastructure, improving services and enhancing safety and security standards to improve the passenger experience and strengthen the competitiveness of Egyptian airports regionally and internationally.
The Prime Minister made these remarks during a meeting on Sunday, July 12, 2026, with Civil Aviation Minister Sameh el-Hefny to review progress on the construction of Terminal 4 at Cairo International Airport. Hefny said the new terminal is part of a national plan to expand and modernize the airport and strengthen its position as a regional and global air transport hub.
The project is aimed at increasing the airport's total annual passenger capacity to about 70 million, in line with expected growth in air travel demand and to accommodate additional passengers and airlines, while reinforcing Egypt's position as a gateway linking Africa, Asia and Europe, he said.
Hefny also said the terminal will incorporate the latest airport design and operational concepts, including artificial intelligence and digital technologies, to create a smart, sustainable operating system that improves services and operational efficiency while meeting international environmental and sustainability standards.
He further said the project would strengthen Cairo airport's competitiveness, boost transit traffic, attract more international airlines and support tourism, trade and investment, contributing to Egypt's Vision 2030 strategy to establish the country as a regional transport and logistics hub.
The project also reflects the government's strategy to develop smart airports capable of meeting future growth in the aviation sector, he added.
