Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly affirmed that attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) flows is a key pillar of the government’s program of action and a fundamental component of achieving economic reform and comprehensive, sustainable development targets, in line with the continuous directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
Madbouly made these remarks during a meeting held to review the key features of Egypt’s Foreign Direct Investment Strategy (2027–2030), attended by Investment and Foreign Trade Minister Mohamed Farid, General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) CEO Mohamed Awad, and ministry officials.
Madbouly stressed that the state is continuing its efforts to establish a competitive and attractive investment environment based on advanced infrastructure, incentive and facilitation packages, and empowering the private sector as the engine of growth. This aims to promote local manufacturing, facilitate technology transfer, maximize production and export capacity, and strengthen the resilience of the national economy.
During the meeting, Farid said the strategy was prepared in implementation of the directives of the Supreme Council for Investment, chaired by President El Sisi, to establish a framework for enhancing the role and investments of the private sector and attracting greater FDI flows.
He noted that the strategy adopted a participatory approach based on extensive consultations with various relevant state institutions and agencies, as well as direct and in-depth dialogue with private-sector representatives through targeted sector-specific workshops.
The workshops brought together industry federations, unions, professional associations, business associations, and investment companies, alongside specialized interviews with industry experts and the participation of sector specialists and experts from the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in Egypt.
In this regard, Farid reviewed the strategy’s key pillars and foundations, explaining that it included an assessment of Egypt’s investment environment, an analysis of global investment trends and promising sectors, and the identification of priority sectors for promotion to attract and direct capital.
It also set clear targets for increasing private-sector investment and FDI flows through 2030. He explained that the strategy includes effectively targeting investment opportunities and implementing the proposed reforms, alongside the comprehensive digitalization of various services provided to investors, with the aim of streamlining procedures and saving time and effort.
