Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly on Sunday, August 9, 2026, inspected the redevelopment of Marsa Matrouh's Eastern Port, which is being expanded to serve fishing, tourism, and commercial activities. The inspection took place during Madbouly's tour of the Matrouh Governorate, where he visited and inaugurated several development and public service projects.
For his part, Matrouh Governor Mohamed el Zamlout said that the port covers 8,000 square metres and currently has a 90-metre quay capable of accommodating 75 fishing boats and 55 yachts. The redevelopment will extend the port's quays to 700 metres, increasing capacity to 100 fishing boats and 100 yachts.
Separate areas will be allocated for fishing and tourism activities to improve operations. Plans also include restaurants and cafes, a modern fish market, and upgraded workshops and maintenance facilities for boats. The project is intended to improve services for fishermen and visitors while increasing the economic and tourism potential of the waterfront area.
The port and surrounding waterfront attract large numbers of visitors during the summer, and the redevelopment forms part of wider plans to improve Marsa Matrouh's coastal facilities and support the local economy.
