Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly said the Mediterranean city of Alexandria has witnessed a major development boom in recent years under the comprehensive development vision led by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, encompassing significant achievements in infrastructure, utilities and national projects.
Speaking at the outset of an inspection tour on Sunday, June 7, 2026, to inaugurate and inspect a number of service and development projects in the governorate, Madbouly said the governorate had seen major upgrades to its road network and transport corridors, alongside large-scale urban development projects, alternative housing schemes, the elimination of unsafe and informal settlements, and projects under the presidential "Decent Life" initiative that have transformed living conditions across the governorate.
The tour is part of the government's efforts to bring completed projects into operation, accelerate implementation of ongoing projects across governorates and address challenges facing execution on the ground to ensure completion according to schedule. Madbouly was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Randa El-Menshawy, Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem, Alexandria Governor Ayman Attia and other officials.
The Prime Minister expressed his pleasure at returning to Alexandria only a few months after his previous visit, highlighting the city's historical significance and its status as a major destination on the global tourism map. "Today we are inaugurating and inspecting a number of factories in Alexandria that represent a real addition to investments in the governorate and will provide thousands of job opportunities for young people in Alexandria and neighboring governorates," Madbouly said.
He added that the tour also includes service projects such as new traffic corridors aimed at easing congestion across the city. Madbouly stressed that these projects have contributed to a qualitative improvement in services provided to residents, reflecting the state's broader goal of enhancing quality of life through development efforts across all sectors.
Attia said that a total of 94 strategic projects worth EGP 402 billion have been completed or are under implementation in Alexandria since 2014. Of these, 63 projects costing EGP 96 billion have been completed, while 31 projects worth EGP 306 billion are currently under execution.
Among the most significant ongoing projects are the construction of New Abu Qir City on 3,500 feddans of reclaimed land, development of the Abu Qir Metro system and the Hammam Canal water conveyance project, which aims to support the cultivation of two million feddans under the New Delta Project.
The governor added that investments over the past decade have funded 17 major road projects extending more than 200 kilometers, in addition to major projects in wastewater, drinking water, electricity and public lighting, as well as Alexandria's integrated rainwater management strategy.
He also noted that 275 new schools have been built at a cost of EGP 1.9 billion to address educational challenges, while coordination continues with the Health Ministry and relevant authorities to improve healthcare services and pave the way for the implementation of Egypt's comprehensive health insurance system.
