Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, the New Capital represents a qualitative leap in as it has been designed to be a smart and sustainable city with international standards serving as Egypt’s administrative, cultural and economic hub.
During the prime minister’s meeting Tuesday, at the government headquarters in the New Capital with Chairman and Managing Director of the of the Administrative Capital for Urban Development (ACUD) Khaled Abbas to follow up on the implementation status of operating a number projects in the New Capital, Madbouly said the New capital includes residential districts built in various architectural styles, along with diverse administrative and recreational services and an investment-friendly environment for both local and international investors.
Thousands of employees are currently present in the Government District, in addition to visitors, and that the number of residents in the city is steadily increasing. He also noted that the Cairo Monorail has recently begun operation and is an advanced mass transit system that is currently witnessing strong public interest, he said.
The prime minister also said there are directives to accelerate the operation of various projects and service buildings in the new capital, including the Arts and Culture City, the Olympic City, the Green River and the various commercial outlets, while also emphasizing the importance of continuous maintenance of roads and buildings to preserve investments in the city.
Meanwhile, the chairman and managing director of the ACUD stressed ongoing efforts to provide and expand services in the city, improve their quality, and monitor utilities. Abbas said the ACUD is working to enhance quality of life for residents and visitors and to establish the capital as a fully integrated and leading model for smart sustainable cities.
He added that the city offers high-quality services reflecting sustainability, including the recently launched monorail, which represents a modern, safe and environmentally friendly transport system. He also noted that due to the growing number of residents and visitors, preparations are underway to operate various service buildings in the city, and procedures are ongoing to award contracts to major operators for restaurants and cafés, adding that there is currently a trial operation of the Green River, which was opened during Sham el-Nessim and Eid al-Fitr, with further trial operations planned during Eid al-Adha.
A number of restaurants and cafés overlooking the lake within the Green River area are also being prepared for operation, he noted. Regarding maintenance works, Abbas reviewed a number of measures implemented according to the highest standards in the Arts and Culture City, including approval of theaters and issuance of TÜV safety certificates, training of technical staff for operation and maintenance, and technical assessments of required equipment for optimal operation, along with other maintenance works across city components.
He also noted that the Arts and Culture City has received more than 120 visits from heads of state and prominent international figures. Meantime, Abbas highlighted key events hosted there, including the “Homeland of Peace- Live Safely at All Times” celebration held on October 25 last year to mark the anniversary of the October Victory, in addition to numerous entertainment concerts.
He further highlighted promotional efforts for the Arts and Culture City, including events and performances organized by the ACUD, including a concert by Andrea Bocelli scheduled for May 26, which is part of a major series of events aimed at promoting the city as a global cultural and artistic destination.
