Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rostom said that Egypt's continued investment in ports and logistics is supporting economic growth, improving trade infrastructure and increasing the competitiveness of Egyptian exports. In his remarks during a visit to Rashid Port in Beheira Governorate, Rostom said that the project is part of the government's strategy to modernize ports, expand maritime services and support the transport and logistics sectors.
The minister and Beheira Governor Jacqueline Azar inspected work on the EGP 700 million port development project, which covers 48,000 square meters. The project includes new berths, ship repair and maintenance workshops, marine service facilities, utility networks and administrative buildings.
The second phase will add fish refrigeration and ice production facilities, a customs building and a factory producing fishing supplies, expanding the range of services available at the port. Azar added that the project is expected to create more than 5,000 direct and indirect jobs, attract new investment and strengthen the local economy.
The visit also included an inspection of restoration work in historic Rashid, including the Al-Amasili House, one of the city's most important Ottoman-era landmarks. Rostom said preserving historic sites while improving infrastructure will support tourism, protect Egypt's cultural heritage and contribute to sustainable economic development.
