Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rostom and Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouq discussed on Friday, August 7, 2026, mechanisms and implementation frameworks for the economic and social development plan for the 2026/2027 fiscal year in the agricultural sector, with the aim of achieving key development objectives, particularly food security and rural development.

The meeting was held at the ministry’s headquarters in El Alamein as part of an expanded coordination session. It was attended by Nehad Morsi, Assistant Minister of Planning for Infrastructure Affairs, Amgad Saada, Assistant Minister of Agriculture for Financial Affairs and Investment, Adel Abdel Azim, President of the Agricultural Research Center, Magdy Abdullah, Technical Adviser to the Minister of Agriculture and Saad Moussa, Vice President of the Agricultural Research Center and Supervisor of Foreign Agricultural Relations.

The session was also attended by a number of senior officials and advisers from both ministries via videoconference. Rostom highlighted that the agricultural development sector employs the largest share of Egypt’s workforce and represents a central pillar of the country’s development priorities.

He stressed that the government is pursuing an ambitious strategy to modernize supply chain systems, expand cultivated areas, and promote agricultural industrialization through the implementation of the “Productive Village” concept, which integrates agricultural activities with industrial production to ensure a safe strategic reserve of crops.

For his part, Farouq said the agricultural sector is moving toward a comprehensive competitive development model focused on maximizing available resources and minimizing losses. He noted that the ministry’s strategy includes measures to enhance private sector participation, attract agricultural investment, accelerate digital transformation, and promote green growth practices.

The Agriculture Minister underscored the importance of establishing a clear timeline and measurable performance indicators to monitor progress in achieving these objectives, helping open new export markets, create employment opportunities, support women’s economic empowerment, and improve living standards in Egypt’s rural communities.
