The Coordination of Party’s Youth and Politicians (CPYP) hosted on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi for an extensive meeting with its members, during which he reviewed the latest developments in the petroleum and mining sectors, the state's plans to increase production, attract investment and maximize the value of Egypt's mineral resources.
He stressed that teamwork and integration among state institutions represent the key for success and sustainable development. At the beginning of the meeting, Badawi praised the Mineral Resources Law that the CPYP introduced, describing it as a major step forward for the mining and mineral industries.
He also commended the CPYP for its role in fostering dialogue on national issues and strengthening communication between state institutions and young people. Badawi explained that the ministry is working under a strategy that prioritizes serving Egyptian citizens and ensuring their energy needs are met.
He noted that the sector's recent achievements were made possible through the efforts of its workforce and continued cooperation with various state institutions, including the Senate and House of Representatives, the cabinet, relevant ministries, Egyptian investors and foreign partners.
He said the ministry addressed the sector's challenges by focusing on key priorities, which has had a positive impact on overall performance. He explained that the accumulation of overdue payments to foreign partners in previous years had negatively affected investment and production levels, coinciding with rising domestic energy consumption driven by economic growth.
The minister stated that the ministry's current priorities focus on securing citizens' energy needs by increasing domestic production, maximizing the use of existing infrastructure through expanded refining and petrochemical activities, launching a new phase for the mining sector to increase its added value, contributing to Egypt's optimal energy mix, enhancing safety, environmental protection and energy efficiency and strengthening regional cooperation, including importing Cypriot natural gas to Egypt.
He stressed the importance of integration between the petroleum, electricity and renewable energy sectors to achieve a balanced and sustainable energy mix.
