Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi affirmed that Egypt possesses the fundamental capabilities needed to build an integrated mining sector capable of maximizing its contribution to the national economy. Badawi made the remarks on Monday, September 28, 2026, in his speech at the opening of the fifth edition of the Egypt Mining Forum, in the presence of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
He said the forum is being held amid continued support from President El-Sisi, who has placed maximizing the utilization of Egypt’s natural resources and opening up investment opportunities among the state’s top priorities. He added that Egypt possesses diverse geological wealth extending across large areas of the Eastern Desert and South Sinai, supported by its distinctive geological location within the Arabian-Nubian Shield.
This offers promising opportunities for exploration and prospecting for gold, copper, base metals, nickel, rare earth elements and other mineral resources. He noted that Egypt also enjoys other important advantages, including the availability of energy resources, an advanced network of roads and ports, well-developed infrastructure, and a strategic geographical location connecting three continents and overlooking the Mediterranean and Red seas.
These advantages are complemented by the Suez Canal, one of the world’s most important trade arteries. He stressed that these advantages provide Egypt with a strong foundation for building a more integrated mining sector capable of attracting long-term investment.
Badawi said the legislative and institutional framework has been developed, noting that Law No. 78 of 2025 was issued to reorganize the Mineral Resources Authority and transform it into the Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority as an economic authority, strengthening its ability to manage and exploit the state’s resources on the basis of more efficient economic principles.
Badawi stressed that developing the mining sector cannot rely on legislation alone, but also requires listening directly to investors, understanding their needs and identifying the challenges they face. He explained that the ministry has sought to gather the views of investors from mining markets around the world, from Australia to Canada, and benefit from leading experiences and best practices in countries with advanced expertise in the mining sector.
The minister added, “Building on this dialogue, the state has begun developing and launching a package of incentives and measures that directly respond to proposals put forward by Egyptian and foreign investors, with the aim of creating a more attractive, flexible and competitive investment environment.” Egypt sees major expansion in agricultural development projects Egypt sees major expansion in agricultural development projects
