Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi asserted on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, during a meeting with the executive council of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) that increasing domestic production and securing supplies of petroleum products are key priorities.
The Ministry of Petroleum said in a statement on Tuesday that the meeting was attended by the EGPC’s executive council, chaired by its CEO Salah Abdel Karim, along with the EGPC's vice presidents. The meeting was held as part of ongoing efforts to monitor plans to increase production, secure supplies for the domestic market, improve operational efficiency and maximize the use of available assets and resources.
The meeting reviewed production, exploration and prospecting plans in cooperation with investment partners, as well as project implementation rates. It also examined the status of petroleum product supplies, crude oil refining operations and the efficiency of the product handling and distribution system, with the aim of ensuring the continued provision of domestic market needs and regular supplies to various sectors of the state.
The minister stressed the pivotal role of the EGPC in managing this system efficiently by integrating its various sectors, continuously monitoring company performance and maximizing the use of existing production and refining capacities and infrastructure. Badawi asserted the need to accelerate the implementation of targeted projects, improve operational efficiency, enhance the economics of activities and projects and maximize returns from available assets and resources to support increased production, improve performance and enhance the efficiency of services provided to citizens, while continuing efforts to attract and encourage investment and expand exploration, prospecting and production activities.
The minister also stressed the importance of improving the EGPC's performance, developing its working mechanisms, continuously reviewing performance indicators and measuring results and addressing any challenges that could hinder implementation of its plans.
