Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi highlighted the significant growth in petrochemical production and the sector’s success in opening new international export markets, directing the preparation of a five-year strategy for the industry in line with targets to increase oil and natural gas production.
Badawi made the remarks during a meeting of the General Assembly of the Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company (ECHEM) to approve the company’s results for the 2025/2026 fiscal year. In a statement issued by the Ministry on Friday, September 18, 2026, Badawi stressed the importance of enhancing Egypt’s role as a regional hub for gas trading, particularly in light of the project to connect gas fields in Cyprus to Egypt’s infrastructure.
He also praised the company’s efforts to advance a package of strategic projects aimed at localizing the production of new products and securing the financing needed for their implementation. For his part, ECHEM Chairman Alaa El-Din Abdel Fattah reviewed the company’s performance during the 2025/2026 fiscal year, reporting total production of approximately 4.6 million tons of petrochemical products and revenues of 2.6 billion dollars, supported by strong export performance worth 1.8 billion dollars.
He said the company exported its products to 50 countries, while opening new markets in Spain, Brazil, Cyprus, Romania and Slovenia. Domestic sales amounted to 742 million dollars, while the value added generated from gas and petroleum derivatives reached approximately 1.6 billion dollars.
Abdel Fattah said ECHEM is continuing to implement its 2026-2030 five-year plan, which includes eight strategic projects targeting the production and localization of 20 new products, with a combined annual production capacity of 6.5 million tons. “The projects are expected to attract 10 billion dollars in investments and generate projected annual revenues of up to 7 billion dollars,” he added.
