In 2024, the Pavlodar Design and Experimental Center under Kazakhstan's Main Line Directorate delivered a substantial workload in support of the national rail network. The facility manufactured 13,800 tools for track infrastructure and completed repairs on over 400 units of small mechanization equipment throughout the year.
Core Production and Technical Services
Beyond routine manufacturing targets, the center handles non-standard technical assignments for structural divisions across the KTZ network. This includes developing technical documentation and engineering drawings, participating in installation and testing phases, and supporting innovators in implementing complex solutions on the railway system.
"The center serves as a technical resource for solving problems that fall outside standard production parameters," explained Murat Makimov, head of the Pavlodar Design and Experimental Center. "Our specialists work across multiple disciplines to support operational units throughout the rail network."
Bench Manufacturing Initiative
Last year, the center's workforce identified a new capability opportunity. Beyond regular operations, staff manufactured 1,140 benches designed to equip production facilities at linear enterprises. Before production began, designers prepared sketches with specified dimensions that were reviewed and approved by railway personnel.
The approach prioritized simplicity. Materials and fastening components were selected for durability and ease of maintenance. The initial trial batch underwent testing at linear shops within the Pavlodar station hub, where workers provided positive feedback on functionality, construction quality, and longevity. Following this validation, production expanded to supply additional track sections across the network.
Distribution Across Railway Regions
Deployment has proceeded across multiple operational zones. To date, 287 bench units have reached enterprises in the western region, 155 units shipped to the southern region, and 698 units allocated for distribution across central, eastern, and northern territories. The benches are designated for installation in timekeeping rooms, heating points, switch posts, changing facilities, and other workspaces.
The center plans to continue the furniture manufacturing program in 2025, with targets set for producing another 1,000 benches.
Broader Workplace Improvement Efforts
The bench initiative forms part of a larger infrastructure program implemented during 2023 and 2024. Within the framework of improving working and rest conditions for railway employees, the Main Network Directorate acquired 312 modular rest buildings, equipped 1,224 heating points, purchased 4,320 units of small mechanization equipment, approximately 9,000 units of office equipment, 3,637 bag-containers, and completed routine repairs on 436 buildings throughout the network.
