Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Minister Randa El Minshawy said New Alamein embodies Egypt’s vision for sustainable fourth-generation cities, noting that the project was launched under directives from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi. During a press conference on Sunday, May 10, 2026, El Minshawy said the city extends over 49,000 feddans along a 14-km Mediterranean coastline, adding that seven kilometers of the first phase have already been completed, while 45 percent of the city’s total area has been developed.

She noted that New Alamein currently includes 28 residential towers, 46,189 housing units and around 2,000 hotel units, with further expansion plans underway to meet growing demand. The minister added that the city hosts three universities operating year-round, alongside a medical hospital, while construction is continuing on a new hospital project.

She said the Heritage City area includes a conference center, theaters and commercial zones, supported by the upgraded Borg El Arab International Airport. El Minshawy added that the city provides integrated services, including public and Japanese schools, nurseries, medical centers, markets and mosques across the Latin Quarter and beachfront districts.

She stressed that housing projects in the city cater to all social segments, including luxury and social housing units under the presidential “Housing for All Egyptians” initiative. The minister emphasized that New Alamein is designed as a fully integrated city operating throughout the year rather than a seasonal resort destination.

She described the project as a model for Egypt’s broader fourth-generation cities strategy, which currently includes 39 new cities aimed at creating integrated urban and investment opportunities. El Minshawy said revenues generated from investment projects contribute to financing low-income housing initiatives, noting that around 1.788 million housing units have been implemented or are planned nationwide since 2014 at a total cost of EGP 300 billion.

She added that New Alamein includes 1,992 housing units within the “Housing for All Egyptians” initiative. The minister also highlighted the ministry’s rapid response mechanism for monitoring citizens’ complaints, particularly regarding housing delivery delays, to ensure projects are completed according to schedule and quality standards despite regional challenges.
