Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir and Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, inspect Jabal Sahaba in the Sinai Peninsula and Jabal Ataqa area in Suez. This tour came in line with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's directives to maximize returns from natural resources and to explore and study the feasibility of utilizing the Jabal Al-Sahaba area in central Sinai and Jabal Ataqah in the Suez Governorate.
The goal is to establish renewable energy projects and generate electricity from wind power. This is in light of the state's plan for sustainable development and energy transition, the national energy strategy, and the work program of the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, which aims to diversify energy sources, rely on renewable energy, and reduce the use of fossil fuels.
During the tour, the two ministers inspected a number of sites at different altitudes, as well as high-altitude sites that reach 640 meters in the Jabal Sahaba area and 870 meters in the Jabal Ataqa areas. Instantaneous wind speeds were reviewed in the field, and the geographical suitability of each site was assessed.
The visit extended to include different areas. The routes of the electricity transmission network were reviewed, and some places were selected within the framework of the plan to expand renewable energy projects and compress the timelines for implementing current projects to reach a 45% share of renewable energy in the energy mix by 2028.
