Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty met on Monday, May 25, 2026, with Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi within the framework of ongoing coordination among state institutions to support efforts aiming to attract foreign investments and enhance cooperation in the energy sector.

The two ministers discussed mechanisms for promoting the investment opportunities offered by Egypt’s petroleum and gas sector, in addition to ways to diversify resources. They emphasized the importance of benefiting from “Egypt Upstream Gateway” as a key platform for presenting available investment opportunities in petroleum and gas exploration, research, and production to international companies, in a way that supports the state’s plans to boost foreign investments and maximize the benefit from natural resources.

During the meeting, Abdelatty underlined the importance of strengthening cooperation with regional and international partners in the energy field, in a manner that contributes to consolidating Egypt’s position as a regional hub for energy trade and circulation.

He also pointed to the importance of exchanging expertise with energy-producing countries in the fields of production and extraction, as well as focusing on employing modern technology for the exploration and utilization of natural resources in a way that helps attract foreign investments.

For his part, the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources reviewed the latest developments in regional cooperation projects in the energy sector and ongoing efforts with the Cypriot side to connect Cypriot gas production fields to Egyptian infrastructure, in a manner that supports energy security and achieves shared economic interests.

He noted that the liquefaction complexes in Idku and Damietta are among the most prominent strategic assets Egypt possesses in the field of natural gas trade and circulation, given their advanced infrastructure and distinguished geographical location linking gas producers in the Eastern Mediterranean with European markets.

The two ministers affirmed the continuation of coordination and integration between the two ministries and the relevant authorities to promote major national projects and attract more foreign investments into the petroleum sector, in a way that enhances the competitiveness of the Egyptian market and opens new horizons for Egyptian companies to expand and compete internationally.
