Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) has announced plans for a large-scale fire-fighting exercise at its administrative headquarters in Astana on February 7, 2025. The drill will involve special equipment and personnel from the Astana Department of Emergency Situations under the Republic of Kazakhstan's Ministry of Emergency Situations, testing the coordinated response capabilities of both railway staff and professional emergency responders.
The exercise represents KTZ's triennial comprehensive fire safety assessment, a mandatory drill held once every three years to maintain readiness for potential emergencies. During the simulation, building employees will participate in a full evacuation while emergency services practice intervention protocols.
The primary objectives include evaluating the readiness of all personnel to respond swiftly to security threats and strengthening coordination between KTZ's internal emergency response teams and external emergency services. The drill will specifically examine the operational status of multiple safety systems, including warning and detection networks, signaling equipment, automatic fire suppression infrastructure, smoke management systems, and evacuation procedures.
KTZ's administrative complex, constructed in 2009, ranks among the largest buildings in the capital city. Rising to a height of 175.3 meters with a total floor area exceeding 102,000 square meters, the facility accommodates approximately 3,600 employees across two distinct sections: Block A spans 40 floors while Block B extends across 37 floors.
Safety inspectors will scrutinize the integration and functionality of all building-wide security systems throughout the exercise, ensuring compliance with national emergency response standards and identifying any maintenance or operational deficiencies requiring attention.
