Vice President of Kazakhstan will be appointed next week or within 10 days. This is what President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said at a media briefing in the Palace of Independence in Astana, Qazinform News Agency reports. “You said that the constitutional reform would mark the beginning of historic transformations, and large-scale modernization would continue until the end of the year and even next year.
What changes will occur in the country after the Qurultay and the People’s Council begin their work, and after the establishment of the post of a vice president?” a journalist from Khabar Agency asked. Tokayev said that the newly introduced position of vice president became a significant constitutional change and stressed that it was essential in the current challenging period.
“Who will take the post of the vise president will be announced within the next week or ten days. It would be premature to announce it now. I believe it will be a well‑known figure whom you all know well,” the President noted. Tokayev also stated that further reforms would be implemented, including the launch of a new state body - the People’s Council (Khalyk Kenesi) of Kazakhstan.
“The Council will enable to strengthen and expand the work previously carried out by the Assembly [People's Assembly of Kazakhstan - edit]. I can say that this will be a new multifunctional political mechanism. I am confident that its activities will be productive,” he noted.
The President emphasized that the plans are extensive, reiterating that the country should become a “large construction site.” He said major projects would be carried out in every regional center, district and city, including healthcare facilities, children’s rehabilitation centers and other social projects.
In Astana, he added, important projects such as a new bridge, Dombyra Palace and a Water Research Center would be built. He underlined the need to improve urban infrastructure and continue the “Taza Qazaqstan” campaign, urging citizens to join efforts for the country’s benefit.
“We have no other homeland but Kazakhstan, and each of us must contribute to its development. Overall, the electoral campaign was well-organized. New figures entered the political arena, and substantive, constructive ideas were voiced. I believe this Qurultay will give fresh impetus to the development of our country,” he concluded.
Earlier, it was reported that Kassym-Jomart Tokayev cast his vote in today's election of deputies to the new unicameral parliament Qurultay.
