ASTANA – Kazakhstan has completed the track connection on the 323.3-kilometer Moiynty-Kyzylzhar railway line, marking a key milestone in one of the country’s major transport infrastructure projects. The new line, being built across the Ulytau and Karagandy Regions, is designed to strengthen Kazakhstan’s transport and logistics potential, expand international routes and increase export and transit capacity.

Once commissioned, the line will become an important link of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, known as the Middle Corridor, improving regional connectivity and freight transportation efficiency. The project will shorten freight routes by 149 kilometers, ease pressure on the Moiynty-Zharyk railway section, increase container train speeds and expand capacity for freight and transit traffic.

The project comes amid growing international attention to the need for expanded rail infrastructure along the Middle Corridor. According to experts, the pace of rail infrastructure development could have a “huge impact” on demand for freight rail services, while infrastructure development, coordination and supply-chain resilience remain key to the corridor’s long-term viability.

Construction is progressing according to schedule, with around 2,000 specialists and more than 700 units of equipment deployed at the site. The railway line is scheduled for commissioning this year.
