ASTANA – President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Belarusian Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov in Astana on April 14, highlighting the positive dynamics of bilateral cooperation and calling for sustained trust-based dialogue to ensure effective implementation of agreements reached at the highest political level. Trade between the two countries surged 30% in 2025, reaching $1.2 billion, according to Akorda.
Ryzhenkov expressed gratitude for Kazakhstan's support in strengthening bilateral relations across all governmental levels. Both officials underscored the importance of deepening cooperation in industrial collaboration, transport, agriculture, and tourism, with particular attention to expanding exports of Kazakh products. Kazakhstan also invited Belarusian partners to collaborate on digital development initiatives, including digitalization projects and artificial intelligence applications, signaling efforts to export domestic digital solutions and technology expertise.
Transport and logistics emerged as a key pillar of bilateral cooperation. Rail freight volumes between the two countries reached 1.1 million tons during January-February, marking a 25% year-on-year increase and highlighting strengthening infrastructure connections. The planned opening of the Consulate General of Belarus in Almaty on April 15 is anticipated to enhance regional ties and streamline cooperation between businesses and institutions across southern Kazakhstan.
Ryzhenkov held separate talks with Kazakh Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev, covering political, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian cooperation, as well as coordination within international organizations. The deepening engagement reflects broader efforts by both countries to diversify economic partnerships beyond traditional markets.
