Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam held talks with Jessika Roswall, European Commissioner for Environment, Water Resilience and a Competitive Circular Economy, to discuss expanding cooperation in the water sector. This came during a meeting on the sidelines of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development at United Nations headquarters in New York.
During the talks, the two sides discussed ways of advancing the Egypt-EU Strategic Partnership and coordinating preparations for the 2026 United Nations Water Conference. Sewilam said Egypt has prepared a package of priority water investment projects that match European funding mechanisms and are intended to attract investment and increase private sector participation.
The minister stressed the importance of developing practical initiatives that strengthen international cooperation and encourage investment in the water sector. He also reviewed preparations for the 9th Cairo Water Week in October and invited the European Union to participate in the event, which will also host the annual Egypt-EU High-Level Water Dialogue.
They also discussed preparations for the 2026 UN Water Conference.
