Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid said the government is pressing ahead with a broad package of institutional and economic reforms aimed at improving the business environment, facilitating investment and enhancing Egypt's competitiveness. Speaking during a meeting with representatives of 30 Indian companies operating in Egypt, attended by Indian Ambassador in Cairo Suresh K.
Reddy, Farid said direct dialogue with investors is essential to shaping economic policies and addressing private-sector challenges. The minister outlined measures to simplify procedures, expand digital services and establish a unified digital platform linking government entities to provide investment and licensing services through a single window with fixed processing timelines.
He added that the ministry is also streamlining capital increase, as well as merger and acquisition procedures, creating a centralized platform for investor complaints, and supporting priority projects through the Sovereign Fund of Egypt. Farid also called on companies to disclose foreign direct investment data and submit financial statements to improve the quality of information used in policy-making.
He said the investment reforms complement the state's export strategy by enhancing companies' competitiveness, making greater use of trade agreements and employing digital technologies and artificial intelligence to support exporters. For his part, the Indian ambassador said Indian companies view Egypt as a strategic partner and a regional hub for manufacturing, exports and investment, adding that Egypt's economic reforms and stability have strengthened investor confidence.
Representatives of Indian firms operating in sectors including chemicals, petrochemicals, food industries, textiles, renewable energy and green hydrogen outlined plans to expand production and exports, while calling for simpler licensing procedures, faster visa issuance for experts and improved services in free zones.
Major Indian companies, including UFlex, TCI Sanmar, Indorama, Asian Paints, Dabur, Monginis and Ocior Energy, affirmed their expansion plans in Egypt and announced new projects in green hydrogen, renewable energy, chemicals, fertilizers and food industries. According to the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), Indian investments in Egypt total around $1.26 billion, while bilateral trade stands at about $4.2 billion.
