Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem said on Monday, July 13, 2026, the ministry has adopted a comprehensive strategy that goes beyond boosting industrial output to meet domestic demand, aiming instead to transform Egypt into a regional hub for manufacturing and exports.
The strategy also focuses on attracting European companies seeking to relocate their manufacturing operations to Egypt and benefit from the country's investment incentives, which provide access to African and regional markets, the minister said. Hashem made the remarks during a meeting with Greek Ambassador to Egypt Nikolaos Papageorgiou, attended by Assistant Minister for International Cooperation Ahmed Maghawry and Head of the Minister's Technical Office Ahmed Osama.
The meeting discussed ways to strengthen industrial and investment cooperation between Egypt and Greece. He explained that the ministry's action plan is based on two main pillars. The first focuses on supporting existing investments and companies operating in the Egyptian market by addressing challenges and improving the business environment, while the second aims to attract more new industrial investments.
He noted that the success stories of foreign companies operating in Egypt serve as an effective promotional tool for attracting additional investors. Hashem also stressed the importance of strengthening direct communication with the business community by organizing a roundtable bringing together Greek companies and business entities operating in Egypt to discuss the challenges they face and develop practical solutions, helping translate shared ideas into tangible industrial projects that serve the mutual interests of both countries.
The meeting also reviewed opportunities to benefit from the investment incentives offered by the Egyptian government to encourage Greek companies to establish Egypt as a regional base and strategic platform for exporting their products to African and neighboring markets.
Discussions focused on the pharmaceutical, engineering industries, petrochemicals, clean energy, and industrial capacity-building sectors, while highlighting the success stories of Greek companies operating in Egypt as a means of attracting further investments.
For his part, the Greek Ambassador said Egyptian-Greek relations are witnessing unprecedented growth, stressing that elevating economic and industrial cooperation to match the distinguished political ties between the two countries is a priority for Greece. He noted that Egypt represents a strategic destination for Greek companies thanks to its economic stability, advanced infrastructure, skilled workforce and strategic location as a gateway to African markets, while Greece serves as a strategic gateway for Egyptian products to European markets.
The Ambassador also praised the success of Greek investments in Egypt, highlighting companies such as Titan Cement, Coca-Cola Hellenic and Alumil, as well as joint projects in ship waste treatment in the Suez Canal and advanced medical equipment. He said these successful models provide strong momentum for attracting more industrial partnerships and investments between the two countries.
